It is now over a year since the redesign of the Artnodes journal. Since then, we have worked hard to have it indexed in the international academic journal databases and directories which help the articles published reach a wider audience. We have continued to improve the quality of our publication, strengthening the review quality and the process as a whole, incorporating new members on to the editorial board, and increasing the functions of the editorial interns. Likewise, we have made the information area into a blog, which allows for flexible publishing of a wide range of information, opinion articles and reviews on events in art, science and technology around the world.

We are at a very interesting point where we are witnessing how an increasing number of the artistic practices that we look at are attracting support and attention from both public and private institutions. That which initially was a highly specialised minority field is no longer such thanks to the natural hybrids forming in the generalised context of contemporary culture and art. Lastly, we can see how objects and processes belonging to current artistic practices are forming hybrids with technologies and increasingly commonly appear in all kinds of exhibitions, museums, festivals, productions, schools and universities.

Over the last year, we have seen how production, exhibition and training spaces have appeared, such as the impressive LABoral centre, in Gijón, which is designed to promote all these kinds of practices and destined to become an international point of reference, or the publication of the Libro blanco de arte, ciencia y tecnología (White paper on art, science and technology), produced by the Fundación Española de Ciencia y Tecnología (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology), which defines specific policies and a range of other landmarks to reinforce the ACT (Art, Science and Technology) system in Spain. Thus, cultural innovation policies are appearing as catalysts for interrelations between art, science and technology.

In short, we can look optimistically to a future that is to be strengthened by the growing interest in reflecting on and documenting approaches to artistic practice linked to science and technology in the context of the network society. Therefore, we will go on working to continually improve our journal and thus contribute by offering a useful tool to the research, academic and professional community working in the field.
