Pregunta: Could you tell us how Carnivore came up, where did you start and at what stage is the project now?

Carnivore es un proyecto de software basado en el software de vigilancia del FBI del mismo nombre y creado por el grupo RSG (Radical Software Group). Alex Galloway, uno de los miembros fundadores de este colectivo, nos cuenta cómo surge y qué objetivos persigue este proyecto. El RSG creó una versión del Carnivore del FBI también como medio de vigilancia, pero con un punto de vista muy diferente. Galloway nos explica sus impresiones sobre cómo la sociedad suele entender lo que supone el tema de la vigilancia y las consecuencias que puede acarrear cuando la preocupación general se centra en la invasión de la propia privacidad.

Galloway ha trabajado seis años como director de Contenido y Tecnología en la plataforma en línea destinada al nuevo arte multimedia, Rhizome.org. Actualmente enseña medios digitales en la Universidad de Nueva York.
Es autor de Protocol: How Control Exists After Decentralization (MIT, 2004) y de Gaming: Essays on Algorithmic Culture (University of Minnesota, 2006).
