Fundado en 1997, Lab_au conectó con la investigación teórica LAB[a+u] para llevar a cabo trabajos de conceptualización y realización. De este modo Lab_au elabora un 'hiperdiseño' investigando las implicaciones de las nuevas tecnologías de comunicación y cálculo en estructuras espaciotemporales, así como sus formas de representación, como la arquitectura y el urbanismo.
En esta entrevista, dos componentes de Lab_au explican la situación de los nuevos medios digitales en lo referente a su característica multidisciplinar y la necesidad real de nueva terminología para establecer diferencias entre todas las disciplinas y metodologías del campo digital: metadiseño, metafuerza.
Lab_au considera la arquitectura como una de las disciplinas más interesantes de los medios digitales, ya que se extiende a varios niveles dentro del mismo, por ejemplo en la concepción del espacio, su representación y la relación entre ambos.

Pregunta: About The contents of Metadesign, what makes the differences between Metadesign, Design and Architecture? And also how does it affect in your approach to digital creations?

Pregunta: Some projects involve sound, space, music and interaction; do you think in this context all this mixed up disciplines might involve the point that space becomes more important than time?. And in your case, coming from architecture background, do you think now there is a stronger role of the space in art creations?

Pregunta: We know in many software art creations, most of the considerations are based on the meaning of abstract code. Do you think there is parallelism between those considerations and architecture forms? Do you consider it as a formal expression?

Pregunta: I was also thinking about the possible applications of your work and investigations, for example the installation you showed yesterday in Sónar04, in which you are working with the idea of interrelation between music and 3D structures. Can you imagine some other possible application involving new forms of space?
