En el contexto del 25º aniversario de Ars Electronica, Gerfried Stocker nos explica lo interesante y útil de este repaso histórico del arte electrónico para las personas relacionadas con el arte y los medios digitales y multimedia, dado que les brinda la oportunidad de entender mejor en qué punto exacto se encuentra el Media Art, de dónde viene y qué se ha hecho hasta el momento. Y en esta evolución, Stocker considera que uno de los grandes cambios de la sociedad y gran inspiración posterior para el artista ha sido el aumento de los medios de control y vigilancia como consecuencia del miedo que experimentan las personas ante del terrorismo y el peligro externo.

La obra artística de Gerfried Stocker está vinculada a instalaciones, performances, interactividad, robótica y telecomunicaciones. Es el director del Centro Ars Electronica y, junto con Christine Schöpf, codirector artístico del Festival Ars Electronica.
