Tol
Tol Tol was a project about relationships among space,
sound and color, during a choice of paths in a context of many
options. We like using the concept of "virtual ecosystem" because
it's a system composed of many interactions and each one changes
in an orderly way. We oppose this concept to the concept of "virtual
stage", where the stage designer disposes some objects with behaviours
to be visited by the user.
Tol
tol tol was supported by IUA
of UPF and was advised by Narcís
Parés. It was awarded in 1999 with Premi
Möbius Barcelona Multimèdia to the best artistic and cultural
on-line application.
The
user finds a VRML world with a 3D maze build by modules wich looks
like a bubbles. When the user enters into the maze he takes up
a bubble and this bubble plays a sound.
The user starts a symbiotic relationship with the maze. With this
sound, the maze composes in a real time a melody playing other
adjacent bubbles. This melody defines a path which the user must
follow.
If
the user leaves the path he will generate a new sound out of the
melody and the balance will be broken. Some bubbles will change
their place to rebuild a new more balanced space shape.
In
consequence, the maze will change its shape, colour and sound
in an irreversible way.
When
the user goes out from the maze, the system plays a long melody
made up of all short melodies generated during the navigation.
This is the musical topography of its journey. You can listen
now one exemple of that.
