Description

The research is centred, on one hand, on analysing the theories relating to virtual museums and studying the experiments carried out around the world in this field. Therefore, work has been carried out in other countries in our environment, largely in America, where very advanced on-line museum projects have been going on for more than five years. In addition, the latest European initiatives on technology and cultural heritage have been monitored, together with all the framework documents of what might be their future applications. From this, a series of theoretical models has been created to be applied to various virtual platforms, from virtual exhibitions as complements to physical exhibitions to completely virtual spaces without a real counterpart. In all these cases there has been active co-operation with museums in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands to help them improve their potential. A final area of research is the analysis of public monitoring and evaluation of these experiments to find out, among other issues, the response of visitors and to define the quality standards for a virtual museum; as well as comparing this with the public response in the form of attendance. The virtual spaces developed and analysed are: The Portal of the Vall de Boi (OLIBA / Patronat de la Vall de Boi), The children of the war (OLIBA / REDER / Fundación Largo Caballero), Veus (OLIBA / Fòrum 2004) and the Portal of the Lleida Diocesan Museum. The phases of the project related to the objectives are:First phase - Analysis of the provisional results of the previous experiments carried out.Second phase - Creation of virtual environments. Third phase - Application of the project and final evaluation. Fourth phase - Definition of theoretical models and their practical applications
