Description

The aim of this project is to create knowledge and to develop applications for automatic unsupervised translation and for the intelligent handling of text (extraction of information, automatic summaries...).Research in this field is always directed towards the final objective of creating or improving language processing applications. However, different degrees of abstraction concerning the type of research correspond to short, medium or long-term orientations with regard to the effective implementation of the results. INTERLINGUA has established research in the different directions in a way that provides mutual feedback:- Short-term orientation: To implement a prototype unsupervised automatic CAT-ESP ESP-CAT translation environment in a virtual campus space.- Medium term orientation: To develop strategies for improving the quality of communication (from the result of the translation) in these environments.- Long-term orientation: To develop strategies for optimising the computerised handling of language - through its nature of most basic research with the application of a wide range of related objectives, including, but not exclusively so, automatic translation.
