| The eighties and nineties brought a consolidation of Joan Brossa's prestige, the recognition and the popularity, in Catalonia and abroad. In these years the poet created a considerble number of visual poems, posters, object poems, installations, site-specific works and urban poems. The Poema transitable en tres temps (Transitable Poem in Three Parts) (1984), situated beside the Barcelona Veḷdrom cycle track, is a magnificent example of a public poem in an urban space. In the nineties, the poet's carnivalesque cosmovision has become existential pessimism, and reality is transfigured into far from optimistic metaphysical reflections on the human condition and physical and spiritual decadence. The sense of life as enigma and chance and the transitory nature of the human condition also infuse their pessimism into the poet's last installations, such as Interior a l'interior (The Interior in the Interior) (1998). |
