 | Images in Motion. The Cinema. |
| In keeping with the spirit of modernity and the avant-garde that always inspired him, Brossa considered the cinema to be the supreme art of the 20th century. He was profooundly interested in the language of film, and fascinated by the moving images produced by the precursors of the modern cinema. With his extensive knowledge of the history of the cinema, and an inveterate and discerning spectator, as a script-writer he had two periods of intense activity. The first was during his Dau al Set phase, when he wrote the scripts Foc al cąntir (Fire in the Water Jug) (1948) -recently filmed by Frederic Amat- and Gart (1948). The second was in the late sixties, when he worked with the director Pere Portabella as script-writer on the films No compteu amb els dits (Don't Count on your Fingers) (1967), Nocturn 29 (Nocturne) (1968), Cua de cuc (Worm's Tail) (1969) and Umbracle (Conservatore) (1970). On one occasion, as well as writing the script, he also acted, in the film Mągia a Catalunya (Magic in Catalonia) (1983) by Manuel Cussó, and in 1992, Televisió de Catalunya commissioned him to create a series of continuity 'ident' symbols for the channel, based on his visual poems. |
