Over the last few years, the concept of nutrition has undergone a major change and is now seen as an instrument for promoting health and preventing the onset of certain diseases. In addition, social changes have led to an increase in food consumption outside the home, making the catering industry one of the fastest growing sectors of our time.
Against this backdrop, the specialist course in Basic nutrition and group nutrition of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya has been designed to offer an integrated approach to the different aspects associated with the nutrition of individuals or groups from a healthy population to meet the growing demand for experts in nutrition and diet.
The professionals who take part in this course will obtain comprehensive and up-to-date training, both theoretical and practical, which will include basic information on nutrients and their functions and their implications in keeping healthy. This knowledge may also be applied to the design and management of menus for healthy individuals and groups.
Professionals taking part in the programme may contribute the following skills to their organisation in their present and future roles and positions: they will obtain up-to-date knowledge of the relationship between food and its action on the body and will master dietary practice for healthy individuals and the management of group catering (canteens in schools, retirement homes, hospitals, etc).
