The consolidation of the Internet as a means of social networking has changed the traditional structure of the media which, up until the end of the 20th century was strictly divided into press, radio and television. This segmentation of the media led to certain types of production processes and communications agreements based on the social function of each medium and their capabilities. However, the explosion of the Internet onto the communications landscape has allowed us to rethink this structure using a revolutionary new concept: convergence. Audio, video and text (immediacy, image and analysis) converge in a new medium that has seen hypertext become an innovational interactive space for the consumption of information, consequently challenging the traditional media to re-examine their strategies and production processes to win the race for Internet presence.

These changes have fundamentally altered journalism practices to keep up with a production model that has yet to define its own identity: digital journalism. This new modality has modified the three basic processes of the traditional profession: Access to sources, due to the existence of interactive networks and document sources; content production, by using new digital tools, and the dissemination of the journalistic product, by using Internet platforms that make the distribution of information far cheaper.

The Master's Degree In Digital Journalism and Digital Communications Projects Management UOC-El Periódico-Lavinia is made up of the Postgraduate Degree in Digital Journalism and the Postgraduate Degree in Digital Communications Projects Management and covers these aspects from two perspectives.

The Postgraduate Course in Digital Journalism covers the theoretical foundations surrounding the context of the new type of digital journalism through the study of the information society and the characteristics of the information architecture on the Internet. It also provides the practical skills to allow students to meet the professional challenges posed by these transformations, from the perspectives of both content management and content production.

As for the Postgraduate Course in Digital Communications Projects Management, it covers the theoretical bases for understanding the structure of the sector and the characteristics and dynamics of digital communication companies. Additionally, it provides the practical skills needed for students to be able to meet the professional challenges posed by these transformations, from the perspectives of both managing digital communications companies and analysing the financial impact and the target audiences.

The participation of professionals from El Periódico de Catalunya and Lavinia allows students to see the real world of Internet media, to visit the offices of the newspaper and to participate in the call for trainees at El Periódico online, the digital edition of the paper; the Sport newspaper and the Lavinia Group, which provides audiovisual content and services.

The Master's Programme provides the practical skills needed for the students to be able to meet the professional challenges posed by the transformation and change of practices in digital journalism, both from the perspective of production within the framework of digital production and the perspective of digital communication project management.
