The contemporary Muslim world is heterogeneous and faces multiple challenges. It is geographically and historically close to the West and is a bearer of singular values related to monotheism and its own demands. This specialisation deals with basic aspects of the Muslim world from the nineteenth century to the present day. Despite scholarly works by orientalists and scholars of Islam, Islamic society, to which one in five citizens around the world of all ethnicities, cultures and countries are connected, is still poorly understood. The Muslim world, a subject of controversy and contention, in combination with political and security problems as a result of common issues and interests, is studied from a scientific angle in this specialisation. The history of Islamic civilisation, information, communication, dialogue and the geopolitics of Euro-Arab relations are the core content of the course to generate an understanding of the Muslim world in the context of regional and international relations.
This specialisation is open to all professional publics: journalists, diplomats, businessmen and women, actors of local groups, members of NGOs.
