Objectives


The general aim of the programme is to educate experts and specialists in Islamic civilisation and its social, political and cultural interactions in the Arab world and in Europe, through:

 

  • The tools and knowledge to analyse and understand Islamic civilisation from a scientific and academic rather than ideological point of view.
  • Solid scientific skills for the analysis of a constantly evolving context.

 

The course learning focuses on (skills):

 

  • Interpreting and identifying the main sources and pillars of Islam, and their impact on the life and civilisation of Muslims.
  • Understanding the changes and diversity of the Islamic world.
  • Analysing the evolution of Muslim thought through the study of classical and reformist thinking.
  • Analysing the political developments related to the presence of Islam in the Mediterranean and its interactions with Europe.
  • Learning about dialogue between cultures and religions.
  • Knowing the regulatory bases of Islamic law and economics.
  • Understanding the development of science in the Muslim world and its contributions and influences on European civilisation.
  • Analysing and learning about the role of Muslim communities in Europe, through sociology and demography.
