In today's society, the mobility of goods and individuals has become far more important than what it had been in previous periods of the contemporary city. Proof of this is the relevance taken on by this word, not only in the discourse of urban development and the environment but also in transport infrastructure plans based on the aims of land organisation or economic development.
Infrastructures are still – and this is increasingly the case – the permanent support of the economy of a region, as a sector for investment that generates employment and innovation and as determining factors in their development. However, what is changing rapidly is their role as discriminator between the levels of direct services offered to citizens.
The challenge lies in guaranteeing adequate connection and transport networks for all of the forms of mobility required by the different social groups. One where the planning and the design of the space of mobility translates into an important tool for urban reclassification.
At the end of the course, students should be able to draw up plans and projects for infrastructure networks, city transport infrastructure projects and mobility plans, and to carry out mobility management.
