Programme
The programme consists of four required subjects and two optional ones.*
*Students must choose one of the following combinations of subjects:

- Managing multilingualism in business and organisations + Languages, immigration and integration
- Linguistic diversity and education + Languages, immigration and integration

The programme is divided into two semesters:
1st semester
Linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalised world: environment analysis (5 ECTS) - Required
Theoretical framework: the study of linguistic diversity in different contexts
Globalisation, mobility and languages
Political economy of languages
Language policies and their contexts
Managing multilingualism in business and organisations (5 ECTS) - Optional
Importance of organisations in contemporary society. Implications of globalisation for multilingualism at organisations
Types of organisations and multilingual environments: from official languages to corporate social responsibility
Multilingual communication policies
Employee policies and language skills
Design and implementation of multilingualism management programmes
Discussion of representative cases of corporate multilingualism: large and small, public and private, multinational and regional organisations and the different multilingual approaches they use
Languages, immigration and integration (5 ECTS) - Optional
Theoretical framework: the social construction of migration
Legal framework and public policy in the fields of education, health, social services and language, as well as immigration policy itself
Business and civil society vis-à-vis immigration
Immigration and linguistic minorities
Case studies resulting from public policies
Multilingualism, cyberspace and ICT (5 ECTS) - Optional
The presence of languages on the Internet
The relationship between languages, ICT, globalisation and the knowledge society
Cyberspace as a venue for the expression and promotion of languages
Catalan cyberspace and the .cat TLD domain
Language ICT: language technology tools and resources for managing multilingualism at organisations
Institutional policies to promote the presence and use of Catalan online
Linguistic diversity and education (5 ECTS) - Optional
Managing recent arrivals and allophones in Catalonia (newcomer programmes, environment plans)
Managing native students with regard to the values and habits of coexistence and respect for linguistic and cultural diversity in the classroom
Managing the cultural and linguistic training of students for a multilingual world
Managing linguistic diversity and education in other contexts
2nd semester
Project management (5 ECTS) - Required
Characterisation of the intervention environment: needs analysis and assessment of resources and the most appropriate actions. Main types of intervention projects
Project design: objectives, expected outcomes, allocated resources, timelines and monitoring and evaluation systems.
Planning for possible problems
Organisation of the project execution and monitoring process
Action techniques
Adjustment systems
Overall assessment of results and impacts
Conclusions for the design and execution of future projects
Experiences and case studies (5 ECTS) - Required
Analysis of best practice and experiences relevant to diversity management in the spheres of migration, education and business
Discussion of particularly illustrative cases to help students prepare their final projects
Presentation and discussion of papers or studies on diversity management
Final project (5 ECTS) – Required
Definition of an intervention project in the student’s chosen area of specialisation, to be agreed with the person responsible for the relevant area
Supervised conceptualisation and design of the project
Presentation of the final project
