The tasks of translating and maintaining versions of documents in different languages, both for freelancers and translators in companies and organisations that need to generate and manage multilingual documentation, constitute a complex issue with a number of difficulties that need to be tackled using multiple strategies.
Many of these strategies involve the use of computer tools to increase productivity and guarantee the reuse and consistency of the translation, the need to transform a wide range of formats, the creation and maintenance of translation memories and terminology glossaries, the localisation of webs and software, and the processing of large volumes of text where the task must be split among several translators – with the ensuing implications for cost management and quality control.
Translators often have to participate in more projects than translation of documents: website localization and translation software and projects of audiovisual products. This course provides the training necessary to participate effectively in such projects, broadening the perspectives of professional development.
This postgraduate course is highly practical, vocational and focuses primarily on the use of tools and free resources, although it also covers commercial tools often used in companies.
