The University with a growing reach

Minister of Economy and Knowledge of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and President of the FUOC

You have in your hands a summary of the activities of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) over the last academic year, 2010-2011. The university continues to work with dedication and skill, offering a response to the university education needs in Catalonia and around the world. The UOC provides added value, solving problems relating to location, time constraints and study habits.

The UOC has consolidated its position as a university with a growing reach, both nationally and internationally, in the different fields of knowledge it covers. The university has become a point of reference for e-learning, both educationally and technologically. The number of joint educational projects with brick-and-mortar universities in Catalonia and other international bodies has increased, thus strengthening the Catalan university system.

We can, then, be satisfied with the results obtained by the UOC in terms of both its teaching and research, and the scientific expertise it is developing. Finally, we would stress the continuing efforts to maintain the highest levels of organisational, economic and technological efficiency. We believe that the UOC is key in helping us face up to the profound changes, both in society and knowledge, that are occurring now and that will, no doubt, occur over the next few years.
