First week of open cinema at the UOC

From April 26 to 28, the UOC has organized the first week of open cinema. This initiative, promoted by the Information and Communication Sciences Department, offers the opportunity to discover some of the most innovative initiatives on the contemporary audiovisual scene. All of the sessions will be open to the UOC community as well as to the general public. Activities will take place in the Wikilounge of the UOC (Rambla de Catalunya, 6, Barcelona).

The Associate Companies Meeting invites Wikimedia's Head of Business Development

The fourth UOC Associate Companies Meeting is to take place on Monday 22 February. This year's event is to involve Kul Wadhwa, Head of Business Development at the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organisation that manages the popular Wikipedia collaborative encyclopaedia. Imma Tubella, the UOC's President, is to open the event and Llorenç Valverde, Vice President of Technology, is to introduce the speaker.

The UOC organises a get-together for more than 2.400 postgraduate students

On Saturday, the 7th of November, the first get-together of the new academic year will take place for over 2,400 students of the UOC´s International Graduate Institute, held at the Geography and History Department of the UB (c-Montalegre, 6). Throughout the morning, the students in the masters, postgraduate and specialisation programmes and their professors and tutors will have the opportunity to participate in different talks and program activities.

The UOC hosts the inauguration of the academic year 2009-2010 for the Catalan university system

The UOC is to host the inauguration ceremony for the academic year 2009-2010 for the Catalan university system at noon on Friday, 18 September. The event, presided over by the President of the Catalan government, José Montilla, will also involve UOC President, Imma Tubella, the Minister for Innovation, Universities and Business, Josep Huguet, and the Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for the Open University of Catalonia, Josep Vilarasau. The inauguration ceremony for the academic year, which is to be attended by the presidents of the Catalan universities and include a musical interlude from Maria del Mar Bonet, is to begin with the presentation of a retrospective on the UOC's fifteen years from the University's General Secretary and Vice President for Technology, Llorenç Valverde.

The new academic year begins with 38,000 students and new look Virtual Campus

Coinciding with the University's fifteenth anniversary, the UOC starts this new semester with 38,094 students enrolled on one of its first- and second-cycle qualifications, degrees or university masters. For more than 9,000 students, it is the first time they have studied on the UOC's Virtual Campus, which debuts a new look.
