This studies how the new channels of interaction and the new legal framework arising from the emergence of ICT are changing the structure of political movements, the dynamics of the public administrations and the processes of the promotion and universal protection of human rights. From a local and global perspective, the tensions between economic globalization and pluralism (religious, social, cultural and political) are studied, especially how these are channelled through social media and e-government

This group studies how digital media is transforming political processes, actors, and institutions. Specifically, it focuses on how the use of digital media is affecting public opinion and electoral dynamics; changing representative institutions, political parties and public administration; and shaping new ways of organization of protest and social movements. To study these problems, it relies mostly on digital methods and social network analysis.

The researchers in this group study the following subject areas:

-           Quality of democracy and representation

-           Political parties and social movements

-           New media and public opinion (http://www.opinionet.net/)

-           Online deliberation and participation

-           Social network analysis applied to public opinion, socio-political actors, and electoral campaigns.
