Dr. F. Xavier Medina is a social anthropologist and leads research and education in Food and Culture after more than two decades. He is actually professor and programmes director of the Department of Food Systems, Culture and Society, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona. He is also Chair for Europe of the International Commission of the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition (ICAF) since 2006. Previously he was Chair of ICAF Spain, Spanish delegation of the ICAF (2000-2006). He was also a member of the team that drafted the documentation of the Mediterranean Diet Candidacy for World Intangible Heritage Declaration by UNESCO (2007-2010; proposal adopted by UNESCO in November 2010), and he is also actually a member of the team who promotes the Candidacy of the Catalan Cuisine for World Intangible Heritage Declaration by UNESCO.
