Program

The role of container terminals goes increasingly beyond the function of pure transshipment points. Rather, modern ports offer value-added logistics and auxiliary services leading to a network of container flows. Moreover, high-quality services and schedules to be offered to container vessels and landside operators have to be provided. Thus, optimization techniques are necessary to efficiently coordinate the use of resources, actors, and container movements being involved in the respective logistic operations in order to avoid a waste of resources e.g. berth idle times, empty trips, delays, etc. In this talk, different examples and approaches for relevant container terminal problems are described and discussed.

The seminar will be held in English.
