Responsible research and innovation: how to maximise the local impact of my research?

The H2020 research project PERFORM, coordinated by Isabel Ruiz Mallén (researcher at the TURBA research group of the IN3), organises the third session of this training that is intended for young PhD students and researchers who hope to better connect their research with society and/or who are interested in practical scientific education experiences at schools through innovative methods, such as performing arts.

Program

The course language is English and it will be held with the following schedule:

SESSION 3: Philosophy and ethics of science, delivered by Vivienne Kuh (Bristol University).

  • Theoretical session: from 16 to 17:30 h.
  • Practical session: from 17:30 to 19 h.

The course offers practical and theoretical tools to promote socially responsible research, addressing the issues of communication, participation and interaction with young people. This course forms part of the European research project PERFORM. In three countries, PERFORM explores new ways of bringing science to young people through performing arts such as: stand-up comedy (Catalonia), clowns (France) and science busking (UK).

The main goal of the course is to provide young researchers with various tools and skills with which to communicate about their research, analyze it critically and promote its local impact, all through dialogue with citizens and an approach focused on participatory research. The course offers both a theoretical perspective and practical tools, as well as the possibility to actively participate in the PERFORM project through the work we’ll be doing at schools between January and March 2017. The training offers, therefore, two participation modalities: just theoretical training or, practical work in addition to theoretical training (with a small group of students).
