Program

This presentation will give an overview on some of the speaker's rather recent work on swarm intelligence and on hybrid metaheuristics. In particular, two application examples are presented for each of the two mentioned topics. Concerning swarm intelligence, the application examples will focus on techniques for distributed optimization based on the self-synchronization found in colonies of ants and the self-desynchronization to be observed in populations of Japanese tree frogs. Concerning hybrid metaheuristics, the application examples deal with combinatorial optimization problems tackled by combinations of metaheuristics with integer linear programming techniques.

The seminar will be held in English.
