Careers paths

The UOC’s Humanities programme trains students to work in the numerous professions related to the corresponding disciplines, particularly the humanities in the digital age. Some of the career paths open to you as a humanities student are listed below, to give you a clearer, more structured idea of the range of jobs linked to your training.

Produced with a view to laying the groundwork for the development of EHEA-adapted degree programmes, with input from all the Spanish universities that ran old-style Humanities degree courses, the Libro blanco de Humanidades identifies the following career paths:

  • Communication and ICTs

    Designing, generating and managing informative cultural content by using IT tools for processing texts and images.

  • Cultural management

    Defining cultural initiatives and projects, organising events, and implementing and adapting institutional cultural policies through the management of organisational, economic, legal and marketing-related aspects.

  • Heritage interpretation and dissemination

    Generating appreciation of natural and cultural heritage by showcasing it and ensuring its active social use through different approaches and options, in accordance with previously established goals, and by means of all kinds of promotional and awareness-raising resources that aid communication with visitors.

  • Humanities and enterprise

    Raising the value of a business and enhancing its resources by drawing on the skills and abilities of the people it employs, and boosting its social profile through communication and marketing strategies.

  • Development aid

    Formulating and implementing specific development projects within NGOs or the public administration, and in conjunction with different national and international institutions, to overcome imbalances (economic, social, educational, etc.) in any geographical area.

  • Teaching

    Teaching in the public or private non-university education system.

  • Cultural tourism

    Designing and managing, possibly on a worldwide scale, tourist-oriented cultural products and itineraries (in the broad sense of the term), which may combine aspects of the different types of tangible and intangible heritage (natural and ethnographic, historical, archaeological, artistic, etc.) of a territory or various territories often deemed to be interrelated.
