In the coming days Fundación Telefónica and Ariel will publish the book ¿Por qué no hay más mujeres STEM? Se buscan ingenieras, físicas y tecnólogas (Why aren’t there more women in STEM? Female engineers, physical scientists and technologists are wanted). The book is about the results of a research project carried out by the Gender and ICT research group about the lack of feminine vocations in some STEM fields. The publication has been coordinated by Milagros Sáinz, director of Gender and ICT research group, and offers the results of a study carried out by GenTIC on the gender gap in STEM studies and occupations. The research explores key factors in the understanding of young women’s low interest in some STEM-related fields, through a group of young people’s perception of STEM occupations and of people working in them. The difficulties they consider that women face in the course of their professional trajectory are also analyzed.

Among the conclusions, numerous recommendations are proposed to attract more young women to some STEM fields and to counteract the influence that sexism and gender stereotypes have on young people’s academic and occupational decisions, targeting different settings: education, business, and public administration.
