Performance and satisfaction indicators
Employment opportunities

Employment opportunities for university graduates

The Catalan university employment opportunity survey is the most complete and thorough of its kind into employment opportunities for graduates in Catalonia. It is aimed at graduates who finished their university studies more than three academic years ago and takes place every three years (2001, 2005, 2008, 2011 – the year when all public and private Catalan universities took part – and 2014). Since 2001, over 67,000 graduates throughout the Catalan university system have been surveyed.

The results obtained are representative of each degree and university. The aim of the survey is to obtain a series of indicators – employment and unemployment; quality of job integration; satisfaction – that will help institutions take decisions on three fronts:

  • Adjusting supply and demand: rate of employment, rate of suitability, rate of stability, salary, etc.
  • Designing the learning proposal: skills acquired regarding those in demand, functions, branch of economic activity, practicum design, type of businesses, etc.
  • Guidance services: work while studying and subsequent adaptation, factors regarding hiring and professional improvement, skills acquired, etc.

Employers' opinion

The employers' study conducted by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya) is part of a wider project aimed at revealing the vision of businesses and institutions regarding employment among recent graduates. The project has three phases: 1. survey of employers of graduates in Catalonia; 2. discussion groups with employers of graduates by branch of activity and research grants for Catalan universities enabling them to conduct more in-depth studies and improve employment opportunities for recent university graduates.

As well as the results of this survey, this report provides information about employers' vision regarding the skills and training of recent graduates.

The employers' perspective complements that of university graduates, recorded in the employment integration studies. This study also places Catalonia in an international perspective, as it is comparable with European studies, such as the Eurobarometer in which the UOC has participated since 2011.
