Over 42,000 results sent to mobile phones
[06/02/2009]
The UOC has sent a total of 42,377 final results for subjects taken during the second semester by SMS to the mobile phones of those students who requested the service. This initiative began nine years ago and lets students find out about the results of their assessments.
Each semester students can sign up, via the Virtual Campus, for the service that sends results to
their phones. This system is free for those who request it. SMS, or Short Message System, messages
are sent out with the final results for the subjects they are enrolled on.
Following the requests to receive results, during this second semester of the academic year
2008-2009, the University sent a total of 34,379 messages to students on the Catalan-language
Campus and 7,998 on the Spanish-language Campus. The course with the most requests was Business
Sciences, with 9,838 messages; followed by Law, with 6,322, and Psychology, with 5,698.
This service has grown considerably since it started in the academic year 1999-2000, when the
initiative began as a pilot test involving seventy-two students.
