Catalan

Catalan, spoken by over 9 million people, is a co-official language of Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, and Andorra. The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), in its efforts to meet the educational needs of the people of Catalonia and beyond, offers several courses to help you learn Catalan and develop your skills in the language.

Catalán Básico (Beginners’ Catalan) is a new course offered in the UOC’s Spanish language campus designed for students with little or no knowledge of Catalan. Students must have a good command Spanish as this language is sometimes used for explanations in the learning materials and by the teacher. Higher levels will be added progressively over time to ensure students can continue their learning of Catalan. Click here to enrol in the Catalán Básico course.

The UOC also offers the Intermedi (B2) and Suficiència (C1) courses, which are aimed at learners who can already speak Catalan. These courses are taught in the UOC’s Catalan language campus and prepare students for official language examinations recognised by the Catalan authorities. Click here to enrol in the Intermedi or Suficiència course.

Students who successfully complete the course will be awarded a certificate by the University.
