Dr F. Xavier Medina is a social anthropologist and has led research and education in Food and Culture for more than two decades. He is currently lecturer and programmes director in the Food Systems, Culture and Society section of the Health Sciences Department at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona. He has been president of the European Section of the International Commission on the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition (ICAF Europe) since 2006. He had previously been president of the Spanish Section of ICAF (ICAF Spain) between 2000 and 2006. He was also a member of the team drafting the candidature of the Mediterranean Diet as Intangible Cultural Heritage (2007-2010); the proposal was adopted by UNESCO in November 2010. He is also a member of the team promoting the candidature of Catalan Cuisine as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
