[Institutional] The Fundació per a la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Foundation for the Open University of Catalonia, FUOC) is created on 6 October 1994 as an initiative of the Catalan government to provide access to lifelong learning through the use of information technologies and a personalised educational model. / On 6 April 1995, the Law recognising the UOC is officially approved by the Catalan parliament and Gabriel Ferraté is named as the University’s first President.
