OAS Award for Educational Quality 2004
Coinciding with the 5th International Conference on New Technologies, which took place in Barcelona as part of the Universal Forum of Cultures, Dr Gabriel Ferraté received the Award for Educational Quality 2004, which is handed out each year by the Organization of American States' (OAS) Institute of Advanced Studies.
The award was announced in Barcelona by a jury made up of a number of institutions and bodies who work together with the OAS' Inter-American system. The jury highlighted the vital contributions of Dr Ferraté, as rector at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), in terms of "the expansion and consolidation of the new knowledge society thanks to the initiative of virtual metacampuses, in which students and professors from a number of institutions can use technology and access worldwide knowledge networks, acquiring new skills and attitudes for relating, cooperating and learning. All this is made possible by offering quality lifelong education that takes into account each student's location, rhythm and level of dedication."
