Two years ago, the UOC released the first materials from its master's degree: Basic GNU/Linux Operating Systems and An Introduction to Free Software. This was the first time that a Spanish university had released material with the aim of echoing the spirit of the free software movement, which is in favour of sharing knowledge. From now on, material will continue to be released until the whole of the master's has been made available.
The International Master's in Free Software
The Open University of Catalonia started up the first International Master's in Free Software
in 2003. These studies deal, amongst other things, with the basic concepts of free software, the
legal and technical aspects of its use, software engineering in free software environments or the
best ways to combine free and proprietary software systems. The master's can count on the support
of a
scientific advisory board, made up of world-renowned experts in the field of free
software who contribute their vision, opinions and experience. This master's degree is to be one of
the official courses offered by the UOC for the upcoming academic year 2006-2007. This has been
approved by the Department of Universities, Research, and the Information and Knowledge Society in
line with the criteria for adaptation to the European Higher Education Area.
