Experts from a total of twenty European universities interested in the various aspects of the subject of multilingualism were invited from fifteen different countries: Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, UK, Romania and Sweden, alongside the Catalan participation. The Linguamón-UOC Chair in Multilingualism has organised this session. It is the first activity to be run by this recently created network, led by the UOC. The plan is to hold a series of scientific meetings to promote the exchange of information and research projects, and to develop a forum for reflection on the main challenges and opportunities that arise from linguistic aspects of the processes for European integration and globalisation in general. Lecturer in the UOC Department of Languages and Cultures and coordinator of the Multilingualism Chair, Miquel Strubell is the driving force behind this network of experts.
Chair in Multilingualism
The UOC and Linguamón - House of Languages jointly created the Linguamón-UOC Chair in
Multilingualism last November with the aim of promoting research activities, training, information
and documentation related to multilingualism as a tool for society's social and economic
development. Thus, it is designed to be a forum for reflection and analysis on the role of
languages and multilingualism in the European framework and in society's process of globalisation,
and a framework for international cooperation for academic training in this field.
