This international event is the first of its kind to be held in Spain and is to be attended by over 200 people from 22 countries from around the world gathering at Barcelona's CaixaForum, in a meeting and forum for professionals working in the field of conflict resolution. Some of the confirmed speakers include Federico Mayor Zaragoza, former UNESCO director general and current president of the Foundation for a Culture of Peace; and Basil Albadri (a pseudonym to protect his identity), member of LAONF, the Iraqi organisation which promotes non-violence, a network that was created at the beginning of 2006 to encourage Iraqis to undertake dialogue and reject violence irrespective of their ethnic origin. Ian Macduff, director of the New Zealand Centre for Conflict Resolution at the University of Wellington (New Zealand) will also be speaking, as will Nelsa Curbelo, director of the SER-PAZ Corporation (Ecuador) and Imma Tubella, rector of the UOC.
The Campus for Peace and Solidarity is the UOC's charitable initiative. As the university for NGOs, it aims to promote training, research and awareness-raising through information technology. From a university point of view, the institution makes use of a pioneering educational methodology that links and empowers people and organisations around the world to help them improve their humanitarian and charitable work. The Campus for Peace and Solidarity makes its virtual campus available to universities, NGOs and humanitarian organisations so as to allow them to develop their training programmes in any language and at any place and time.
