Catalonia's teachers under debate
[07/02/2008]
Francesc Pedró, from the OECD, is to talk about Catalonia’s teachers at the latest session of the Debates on Education; an initiative led by the Jaume Bofill Foundation and the UOC.

Senior Analyst at the OECD's Centre for Educational Research and Innovation, Francesc Pedró is to take part, on Tuesday, February 12, in the latest session of the Debates on Education, entitled ‘Catalonia's teachers'. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is an international institution bringing together some thirty countries with the aim of promoting democracy and the market economy. Amongst other initiatives, the organisation researches social changes and evolution in a range of areas, such as employment, education or social welfare. This analysis includes the PISA Report, which looks at the status of education and student performance in compulsory education in some sixty countries around the world. The most recent of these reports was published in 2006, focusing on fifteen-year-old students' knowledge of science.

The UOC and the Jaume Bofill Foundation began the Debates on Education in response to the need to debate the future of education, seen as a motor for policies for development, social sustainability and future co-existence. The Debates on Education forum is aimed at all social agents and not just an arena for specialists to reflect on the subjects at hand. Thus, the speakers taking part in the sessions are representatives from a wide range of ambits of society, from the world of business to culture, art, science, architecture or journalism, among others.

This latest talk in the Debates on Education series is to take place on February 12 at 7.30 pm in the Auditorium at the FAD (Foment de les Arts Decoratives), 5-6 Plaça dels Àngels, Barcelona. Entry is free.
