The semester begins with a total of 26,391 people enrolled on accredited qualifications in
Catalan and 5,256 in Spanish. These students hail from around the world. The most popular degrees
once again are Business Sciences (7,185), Psychology (4,007) and Law (3,730). These figures do not
include the 798 postgraduate students on the three official masters courses offered by the
University and the 453 on the University’s own Multimedia studies course. The students are
distributed into 2,345 classrooms, are to study 1,334 subjects and be assessed by 1,184 tutors.
A total of 8,141 students on the UOC’s accredited foundation, degree and postgraduate
courses, in both Catalan and Spanish, live in Spain, but outside Catalonia. Most of these students
live in the Madrid region (1,912), and in the other Catalan-speaking areas: the Balearic Islands
(1,344) and Valencia (1,458). Other areas with important numbers of UOC students include Andalusia
(975), Galicia (487), the Canary Islands (470) and Aragon (354); followed by Castile and Leon
(270), the Basque Country (217), Castile-La Mancha (188), Murica (138), Asturias (99), Navarre
(79), Cantabria (71) and Rioja (30).
At the start of this semester, there were also 578 people enrolled at the UOC from outside
Spain. The majority come from European countries (325) and the Americas (209), but there are also
students from Asia (23), Africa (18) and Oceania (3). Apart from Andorra (64), where the UOC has an
agreement with its university, other countries that stand out include Germany (54), UK (30), France
(23), or Colombia (47), Mexico (39) and Argentina (34), among others.
Alongside the nearly 33,000 students enrolled on the UOC’s 23 courses, 1,760 students
are also to start studying as part of the seventh University @thenaeum, which allows people to pick
and choose subjects freely and without any entry requirements.
