In the leading positions in a stock exchange simulation competition
[09/04/2008]
With around a month to go in the inter-university stock exchange simulation competition, four of the teams of students from the UOC are among the leading five.

This competition involves teams from four Catalan universities, the UOC, the University of Lleida, the University of Girona and Rovira i Virgili University, and allows those taking part to pretend to deal on the financial markets. The students form teams to manage a sum of virtual money on the actual stock exchange. The competition is coordinated by the UOC’s Economics and Business Studies Department in collaboration with Gaesco Bolsa.

The first phase of the competition took place between November 5 and December 21 at each university with the best teams qualifying for the second inter-university round which has been underway since mid-March, coming to an end on May 9. The four teams from the UOC taking part in this second round are among the leading five. The teams have been named after famous economists: Keynes, Schumpeter, Tobin and Modigliani.

Each team starts with 5,000 euros of fictional money to operate, in real time, on the Spanish stock exchange. The classification is based on the net percentage of profitability achieved with respect to the initial capital. The best team will be rewarded with the gains made from the stocks, among other prizes, in a Gaesco share account, which they can use until the end of the academic year 2008-2009.
