The UOC and UPC to train executives in emerging subjects in business management
[30/07/2008]
September 25 will mark the start of Barcelona Active Learning Business Week, a week-long training proposal (up to October 1) organised by the UOC (Open University of Catalonia) and UPC (Technical University of Catalonia). Those taking part –principally directors, managers and executives– can immerse themselves fulltime in the emerging subjects in business management and factors directly applicable to the world of business.
This course is to include a number of activities: regular sessions with lecturers from both
of the universities organising the event; the sharing of experiences with renowned directors;
visits to companies, organisations and public institutions that are benchmarks for innovation and
creativity, and leisure and cultural activities to get a closer look at the character and
projection of the city of Barcelona.
The aims of Barcelona Active Learning Business Week are to offer a look at business based on
the importance of training and the taking on board of one’s own experiences, showing those
taking part the latest technical developments and their application in a range of areas and
providing students with direct knowledge of successful business experiences from Catalan companies.
Academic direction of the course is in the hands of Dr Salvador Estapé and Dr Josep Coll.
Estapé received his PhD from Florence’s European University Institute and his degree in
Business and Economic Sciences from Madrid’s Autonomous University. His professional career
includes activities linked to private companies, universities and public administration, as well as
wide international experience.
In turn, Coll received his PhD in Industrial Engineering and a TBM (Masters in Technology and
Business Management) Programme diploma from the UPC-Sloan School of Management, MIT. He is
currently Deputy Director of the UPC’s Business Organisation Department, where he leads the
Strategic Planning process and the department’s research promotion programmes. Coll was Vice
President of Academic Policy at the UOC from 1997 to 2003.
