Conflicts have an important and often serious effect on the lives of the people and societies affected by them, whether these be related to personal, family, employment, social, economic, political or international issues. Expressions and use of violence like war and terrorism, gender violence, etc., lead to loss of human life and have important moral and economic effects.
Mere denouncing or repression of violence are obviously insufficient and, at times, may only be counterproductive. The rise in conflicts and violence cannot be overcome by increasing the repressive systems, toughening up the penal legislation or promoting war.
There is a clear lack of research in the field of conflict resolution and in the training of experts in conflict resolution. It is necessary to analyse the causes of conflicts and identify the procedures which efficiently, and without side effects or contradictions, offer solutions for living together peacefully.
The 1st International Congress on Conflict, Conflict Resolution and Peace is designed to address these issues.
