Agnès Vayreda is a lecturer in the Arts and Humanities Department of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC), having previously been attached to the Social and Health Psychology Department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). She is also a lecturer and counsellor on the Information and Knowledge Society PhD programme run by the UOC’s Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3), and a lecturer on the Social Psychology PhD programme taught at the UAB’s Faculty of Psychology.

She was director of Gircom, an interdisciplinary research group on virtual communities, from 1999 to 2007. Alongside Elisenda Ardèvol, she has directed the Telefónica Chair in Virtual Communities, which is linked to the IN3. At present, her research is focused on the analysis of virtual groups in relation to health matters and, more specifically, on the processes of patient assessment by experts, the problematisation of the distinction between expert and non-expert knowledge in such contexts, and the generation of uncertainty in relation to their health issues. She covers the topic of gender in all the lines of research in question.
