In the knowledge society it is often said that there is an excess of information but what we in fact need is more information in order to be able to understand the society in which live. Contemporary society is characterised by a quantum leap in complexity and the abandonment of Newtonian and hierarchical models. We need to invent new forms that allow complexity to be integrated, without restrictions, into culture and knowledge. We need to learn to manage complexity and that requires us to value the concept of complexity as a vital factor for reaching understanding of society today. In fact, almost without our realising it, complexity has integrated itself perfectly into our daily lives. As cultural managers, we need to ensure that that complexity is a characteristic trait of contemporary culture.
