Michael Murphy to give the inaugural lecture for the academic year 2022/2023

Michael Murphy will officially open the UOC’s 27th academic year with the inaugural lecture “Universities Without Walls – Adapting to Change in Europe”.

A physician by profession, Murphy has been president of the European University Association (EUA) since 2019 and president emeritus of University College Cork since 2017, where he previously served as President for 10 years, from 2007 to 2017.

With an extensive career developing leadership positions both in Ireland and internationally, he has served as vice-chancellor of the National University of Ireland, member of the Council of the European University Association, chairman of the Health Research Council (1997-2002) and member of the Board of the Health Services Executive (2003-2009).

UOC President Josep A. Planell, the President of UOC’s Board of Trustees Pere Vallès and Minister of Research and Universities Gemma Geis will also participate in the event.

It will be held online and attendance will require previous registration.
