In 1997, two years after its arrival as the world's first online university, the UOC received the European Union's Bangemann Challenge Award for the best European distance education initiative.
The University has since gone on to receive a plethora of other awards, recognizing its e-learning methodology, its involvement in research projects, its social commitment and its outstanding track record in offering quality e-learning.
