Dr Francesc Saigí is an associate professor and director of the Faculty of Health Sciences' Telemedicine programme at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain). He is currently director of the World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating centre for eHealth at the same faculty.

His main research focuses include the definition, implementation and evaluation of new telemedicine services, such as the analysis of the technological and non-technological determinants affecting ICT use by health professionals, and the analysis of how e-health impacts on health system users' and patients' state of health. Since he began his "professional journey" with the UOC, he has simultaneously dedicated his time to finding innovative approaches to training in the health sector and using social media to exchange knowledge about health.

He has participated in nine R&D projects, for four of which he was the principal investigator, and six teaching innovation projects, for five of which he also acted as the principal investigator. He is also the co-author of more than 30 articles that have either been published or accepted in peer-reviewed journals, 27 of which are JCR-indexed; more than a dozen in non-indexed journals, mainly related to e-health; and more than 20 publications in academic and research books.

He is the founder of and scientific advisor at CICUT (Latin American University Collaboration Cluster in Telemedicine), and principal investigator for the CYTED - RITMOS Network (Ibero-American network for mobile technologies in health) Ref. 515RT0498).
