abstract

This book is designed to act as a university manual for professionalising activities. It is written for both degree and postgraduate students of translation and translation professionals who wish to improve and optimise their performance at work.

The tasks involved in translating and maintaining multilingual versions of documents at and for businesses and organisations are increasingly complex and cannot be carried out without help from computerised tools. As a result, this manual offers know-how and the opportunity to practise with the IT resources and tools needed to increase translators' productivity; to ensure they are maximising their efforts and the coherency of their work; to handle and transform texts and formats; to create and maintain terminological glossaries; to manage translation projects and control their quality. Furthermore, it places special emphasis on work with free and open tools and resources

The manual is accompanied by a website where readers can find the software worked with in the various chapters, as well as the material needed to carry out the practicals and exercises set.
