With this agreement, the UOC strengthens its role on the Barcelona Digital Centre Tecnològic?s board of trustees and the centre advances its model to catalyse innovation in Catalan industry and excellence in applied research.
The Barcelona Digital board of trustees is a public-private body. The majority of the members are leading companies in the ICT sector, public administrations and universities. They include the Catalan government, Barcelona city council and companies such as Abertis Infraestructuras, “la Caixa”, Microsoft, Tecnocom, Telefónica, T-Systems, Unitronics, Fujitsu, Hewlett Packard, IBM and Capgemini, and renowned higher education institutions such as the ESADE Foundation, Barcelona Tech (UPC), Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and Rovira i Virgili University (URV).
UOC-BDigital Technology Transfer Centre
The UOC and Barcelona Digital have recently set up the UOC-BDigital Technology Transfer Centre to develop new technologies and methodologies in the fields of education and knowledge in order to connect social sciences, technology transfer and business. To do so, the centre will design programmes and applications to capture and package highly technological knowledge, and the rules and processes for teaching and learning.
The centre’s activities will include software development for subjects such as smart learning, social knowledge networks, simulators, serious game design (games which both entertain and transmit messages or ideas in areas such as training or education), augmented reality and smartphone apps for learning.
