On this seminar, Dr. Kirschner will present the main topics of the process that led to get a PhD in the Open Universiteit of the Netherlands.
In the Dutch university system, a student who has passed his Master’s examinations can go on to do a doctorate (PhD). The PhD is the highest academic degree one can obtain at a university in the Netherlands. It takes a minimum of about four years of research and publication to prepare for a PhD.
Unlike a Master’s degree, with its compulsory subjects, studying for a PhD allows the freedom to devote all of one's time to conducting and pursuing independent research.
The title of doctor is awarded once the candidate has succeeded in publicly defending her or his PdD thesis or dissertation before a PhD committee and the general public. This thesis must describe, and have resulted from, original scientific research supervised by an officially recognised PhD Supervisor, usually a full university professor.
Professor Paul A. Kirschner - Professor off educational Psychology at the Dutch OU and Visiting Professor at the UOC - will explan and discuss the way this occurs (process and products) in the Dutch system.
This session is addressed to thesis directors, or potential directors. The seminar will be in English.
