Lecture on «The University in the Information Age» by Dr Manuel Castells, Professor of Sociology and world authority in the study of the information society, to mark the opening of the UOC office in Colombia (73-74 7th street, office 801).
As part of an intense schedule of activities in the country to present the UOC, the President, Dr Josep A. Planell, and the Vice President for Globalization and Cooperation, Dr Pastora Martínez Samper, will be attending a number of events organized in the cities of Bogotá and Medellín.
The highlights of these events are the lectures to be given by Dr Manuel Castells in Bogotá and Medellín and the meetings with the members of the UOC community in Colombia, in the two cities.
Dr Manuel Castells is an authority on information and communication technologies. He is a sociologist, economist and university professor in Sociology and Urban Planning at the University of California in Berkeley. He was director of the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute at the UOC, a member of the Advisory Board of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Information Technology and Global Development and a member of the Advisory Board of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Global Civil Society.
He has received 22 honorary doctorates worldwide, most recently from the University of Cambridge and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He has published 32 books, including the Information Age: Economy, Society and Culture trilogy, which has been translated into 21 languages. His latest book is Ruptura. La crisis de la democracia liberal.
