Decidim Fest 2020

Decidim Fest: Democracy and Technology in Times of Emergency is here!

What's in store at Decidim Fest 2020?

The event will bring together researchers, artists and activists on the cutting edge of pressing matters at the intersection between democracy and technology.

It will take place 100% online.

Eleven previously-filmed talks will become available on the Decidim Fest Website on 18 November. Attendees will be able to submit questions and remarks during the talks, which can be streamed in real-time.

Three Decidim Dialogues will also take place via live streaming.

Decidim dialogue 1: The first dialogue will analyse the challenges that free software projects face in terms of sustainability and scalability. Participants include Jaya Allamsetty (Jitsi) and Alba Roza (Foundation for Public Code). Moderator: Carlos Romero, product owner from the Decidim team.

Decidim dialogue 2: The second dialogue will focus on how to design online platforms to promote safe participation, deliberation and community health, while preventing harassment, misconduct and trolling. Participants include researchers Amy X. Zhang (University of Washington), J. Nathan Matias (Cornell University) and Pablo Aragón (Eurecat / Pompeu Fabra University), from the Decidim team.

Decidim dialogue 3: The third dialogue will delve into the experiences of participants of the DecidimFemDev Programme, which seeks to ensure parity in Decidim code development by encouraging and facilitating the participation of women and non-binary people on the platform. Participants include developers Vera Rojman, Alejandra Gonzalez and the director of Digital Fems, Thais Ruiz de Alda.

Several panels will be held, grouping together the projects chosen in the call. They are Technopolitics: Participation and Research, Decidim Stories, Citizen Assemblies and Towards a Feminist Internet.

Networking is a key feature of the event, so Decidim Fest will have digital spaces set up to facilitate this during the coffee and lunch breaks.

Attendance is free and open to anyone wishing to join, although prior registration is required. The event will be streamed in real-time, so attendees can ask questions and take part in the debate via the comments section of the chat on the Decidim Website.
