Co-creating the memory, ecosystem, and economy of digital Barcelona in terms of diversity

As part of 2020's upcoming Open City Biennial of Thought, the Dimmons research group from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya's (UOC) Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) is holding a conference on Saturday 17 October called Barcelona Digital: Co-creating the memory, the ecosystem, and the economy of digital Barcelona in terms of diversity.

Venue

Sant Adrià Street, 20,08030
Barcelona
Espanya

When

17/10/2020 12.30h

Organized by

Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Research group Dimmons of the IN3

Program

The conference's aim is twofold. First, to kick off the event we will strike up and foster an open dialogue about the ecosystem of Barcelona's feminist digital economy, identified by Dimmons. In addition, we will carry out a SWOT analysis to get a better idea of the challenges and opportunities that await us in the age of COVID-19. During the event, which will be held on-site and streamed live, digital tools will be shared to view the work led by Mayo Fuster, which is being presented for the first time ever. Secondly, we will spark debate in two round table sessions, during which 9 professionals – 8 women and 1 man – will share their outlooks on Barcelona's contribution to digitalizing processes, economic initiatives, sovereignty, activism, and digital feminism, with a view to rooting out the challenges and opportunities concerning diversity that the digital sphere gives rise to in the city.

As previously mentioned, the event will be streamed live, something that has not been done before. Information about the event, including the URL needed to access the live stream, will be shared on social media and posted on the website. The conference's second new feature is the online participation that will be made possible via a collaborative document where participants can share their thoughts on the current state of Barcelona's feminist digital economy. Thirdly, Digista, a space for promoting the feminist and intersectional qualities of Barcelona's digital economy, will be making its debut at the event.

Digista is:

  • A space for building and nurturing an ecosystem in Barcelona where the gender perspective and feminist economic practices can thrive, especially when it comes to their digital dimension or nature.

  • A space for debate, contrasting opinions, the creation of joint diagnostics and shared actions, and support for projects looking to sway economic practices and public policies.

  • A space for networking for those holding stakes in feminist practices in the digital economy.

  • A space for systematizing experiences, carrying out related research and pushing for research-related actions that give way to transformational events.

  • A space for empowerment and public visibility.

Goals for 2020:

  • Create the group.

  • Carry out a joint SWOT analysis.

  • Draft a shared document that serves as a road map for future dissemination and impact actions.

  • Gather data and evidence on the issue.

Anyone who wishes to attend in person should reserve their spot as soon as possible.
